Hyundai Heavy nets new order for LNG carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has won a new contract to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

Parent KSOE said in a filing to the stock exchange on Monday HHI would build two LNG carriers for an unidentified owner in Oceania.

Moreover, the deal has a price tag of about 438 billion won ($385 million).

The shipbuilder will deliver the 174,000-cbm LNG carriers by December 2023.

KSOE did not reveal any additional information.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas could be behind this order for two LNG carriers. This would bring the Greek company’s fleet to nine vessels.

The new order comes just weeks after HHI secured an order to build four 200,000-cbm LNG carriers for delivery in 2023 but also 2024.

Brokers said after this announcement that the yard would build these vessels for Greece’s Dynagas.
