Germany’s Westfalen to launch new LNG filling station

Germany’s Westfalen will later this year open a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) filling station for trucks.

The new station in Herford received last week a 17 m high LNG tank as works on the facility continue to progress, according to Westfalen.

Westfalen said it has partnered with Cryotek Services, a unit of Dutch cryogenic tech firm Cryonorm, to build the new LNG filling station.

This will be the company’s second station following the launch of its first LNG filling facility in Münster last year.

The firm is already one of the leading suppliers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Germany and it owns a large network of petrol stations in the country.

Westfalen plans to build several more LNG stations in order to cater to an increasing demand in the heavy-duty transport sector.

The market for LNG as a truck fuel is growing rapidly in Germany as owners look to slash emissions but also a road tax exemption for such vehicles until the end of 2023.
