Wartsila bags new maintenance contract for Canadian LNG ferry

Finland’s Wartsila will continue to maintain one LNG-powered vessel for Canadian ferry operator Societé des Traversiers du Quebec (STQ) as part of a new contract revealed on Monday.

The tech firm said in a statement it had entered into a customized five-year optimized maintenance agreement with STQ, with a further five-year extension option.

The agreement covers the ‘F.A. Gauthier’, a 133 meters long ferry operating with Wartsila 34DF dual-fuel engines and other equipment.

This agreement is a renewal of a maintenance agreement that had been running for the previous five years and the duo signed it in the second quarter of 2021, according to the statement.

Under the deal, Wartsila would provide its expert insight tool and data-driven dynamic maintenance planning.

In addition to the Wartsila engines, the firm would also support its LNGPac fuel storage installed on the vessel, and the ship’s electrical and automation systems.

The LNG-powered ship entered into service in 2015 and is part of STQ’s fleet of ferries operating in and around the Canadian province of Quebec as part of the regional transportation system.
