Dutch firm Titan LNG will bunker Corsica Linea’s first LNG-powered RoPax ferry in France’s Mediterranean port of Marseille as part of a deal revealed this week.
Titan said in a statement on Thursday it had secured the tender to deliver LNG to Corsica Linea’s A Galeotta, marking “the significant expansion of Titan’s operations into the Mediterranean.”
This partnership would boost the availability of LNG, bio-LNG, and in the longer run hydrogen-derived LNG in the region, according to Titan.
The firm said it would first provide truck-to-ship operations until its 4,500-cbm LNG bunkering vessel Krios arrives to serve the region.
Corsica Linea’s new LNG-fuelled ferry, A Galeotta, is currently under construction at the Visentini shipyard in Italy.
It will have the capacity to accommodate 650 passengers and 2,560 lane meters of freight. Also, the vessel will be able to carry 150 cars on a separate deck.
The 206 meters long LNG-powered ferry should begin sea trials in May 2022.
Titan said the vessel’s tanks would be able to receive bio-LNG and hydrogen-derived LNG with no changes required to the infrastructure.
These can even be blended with conventional LNG to reduce emissions further, it said.
