GTT books two new LNG tank orders

French LNG containment giant GTT continues to book new orders on the back of strong demand for LNG carrier newbuilds at yards in South Korea.

GTT said in a statement on Monday it had received two separate orders at the end of 2021.

Under the first contract, the Paris-based engineer will design tanks of one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier ordered at South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

This vessel will get GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system while Hyundai Samho will deliver it to an unidentified owner in the last quarter of 2024.

GTT did not disclose any additional information regarding this contract.

As per the second deal, GTT won an order from a shipyard “whose name remains confidential at this stage,” it said.

This vessel will have a smaller capacity and feature GTT’s NO96 L03+ membrane containment system.

The unidentified yard would deliver this ship in the third quarter of 2023, GTT said, without revealing further information.

GTT also recently revealed an order for one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier at Hyundai Samho but also a contract with Samsung Heavy.

The beginning of this year saw several LNG carrier orders at yards in South Korea and China.

Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua won orders for seven LNG carriers while South Korea’s DSME secured contracts for three LNG tankers. KSOE also revealed orders for two LNG carriers.
