McDermott’s CB&I wins tank gig for Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG project

McDermott’s unit CB&I has secured a storage tank contract from a unit of US LNG export plant developer Venture Global for the latter’s planned Plaquemines LNG project in Louisiana.

Under the deal, CB&I would build two 200,000-cbm LNG storage tanks as part of the first phase of the Plaquemines LNG export project, according to a statement by Houston-based McDermott.

Also, the phase one scope for CB&I includes the engineering, procurement and construction of two full containment concrete LNG storage tanks with associated foundations, tank top mechanical systems and pipe racks extending to the main facility.

McDermott did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

Plaquemines LNG would deploy Venture Global’s liquefaction trains 19 through 36, identical to the 18 trains at Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass project.

The full project would have 20 mtpa capacity, four tanks, and three jetties.

Venture Global has still to take a final investment decision on the development which will be built by KBR and Zachry.

Plaquemines LNG has binding 20-year offtake agreements with Poland’s PGNiG for 4 mtpa and France’s EDF for 1 mtpa capacity. The project also signed deals with China’s CNOOC for 2 mtpa and with Sinopec for 4 mtpa.

Venture Global to ship first LNG cargo from Calcasieu Pass

Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass plant in Louisiana should soon start producing LNG following FERC approvals and the rise of feed gas consumption.

McDermott said in the statement that CB&I had recently achieved “ready for cooldown” as scheduled for two LNG tanks of similar size and scope for the Venture Global Calcasieu Pass LNG project.

Once completed, Calcasieu Pass will produce about 10 mtpa of LNG from 18 modular units configured in 9 blocks.
