Wartsila inks new maintenance deal for Canadian LNG ferries

Finland’s Wartsila said it has signed another five-year agreement with Canadian ferry operator Societe des Traversiers du Quebec (STQ), this time for two LNG-powered vessels.

The optimized maintenance agreement would cover two 92-meters long ferries, Jos Deschenes II and Armand Imbeau II, each of which operates with Wartsila 20DF dual-fuel engines, Wartsila said.

In addition to the engines, the firm would also support its LNGPac fuel storage, supply and control system as well as the ships’ electrical and automation systems.

The scope of services includes Wartsila’s Expert Insight digital solution and data-driven dynamic maintenance planning.

According to the statement on Tuesday, the two companies signed the agreement in October last year and have agreed to include a further five-year extension option.

Last year, the two companies signed a similar agreement covering another LNG-powered vessel, the 133 meters long ferry, F.A. Gauthier.
