H-Line orders LNG-powered PCTCs at GSI

China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) said it has secured a new order to build two LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers for South Korea’s H-Line Shipping.

GSI Nansha said in a recent statement it won orders for a total of six ships worth more than 4 billion yuan ($628.7 million). Besides the two LNG-powered PCTCs, GSI will also build a new ice-breaking tanker for MOL that will serve the Novatek-operated Arctic LNG 2 project.

As per the PCTCs, they will have dual-fuel propulsion and a capacity of about 7,000 units, according to GSI.

The yard did not reveal the price tag or the delivery date of the vessels

According to Clarksons Platou, GSI would deliver both of the LNG-dual fuel vessels to GSI in 2025, boosting the total to four as H-Line already booked two PCTCs last year.

The shipbroker previously said that the vessels would go on charter to Hyundai Glovis and that H-line would pay about $83 million per ship.

Besides these vessels, GSI won orders last year for a total of four LNG-powered PCTCs from SFL Corporation, controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen. These ships have a capacity of 7,000 CEU as well.

In addition to PCTCs, GSI also recently launched the first out of two LNG-powered Suezmax tankers it is building for Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping.
