Wartsila to maintain Japanese LNG carrier duo

Finland’s Wartsila said it has signed maintenance deals covering two LNG carriers technically managed and operated by Japan’s shipping group MMS.

According to a Wartsila statement on Wednesday, the two firms signed the optimized maintenance agreements in February.

The deals would deliver “maximized engine uptime and long-term cost predictability, optimizing maintenance for highest efficiency and lowest carbon footprint,” Wartsila said.

In addition to Wartsila’s asset diagnostics and anomaly detection capabilities, under the terms of the agreements the company will also provide all spare parts, dynamic maintenance planning, remote operational support, field services, and workshop services.

Wartsila said the two LNG carriers operate with its 50DF dual-fuel engines, but the firm did not provide any additional information regarding the vessels.

According to its website, MMS took over the technical management of two 2010-built, 170,000-cbm LNG vessels last year.

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries built both Methane Mickie Harper and Methane Patricia Camila.

In February last year, Japan’s Meiji Shipping bought these carriers from a unit of energy giant Shell as part of plans to expand its LNG business.
