GTT wins Hudong tank gig for MOL’s LNG carrier quartet

France’s GTT said it would design the tanks of four LNG carriers recently ordered at Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua.

State-run QatarEnergy said last month it had signed charter deals for the four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers with Japan’s MOL, completing the first batch of charter contracts awarded under its massive shipbuilding program.

Concurrent with the signing of the deals, MOL and CSSC’s Hudong-Zhonghua penned back-to-back shipbuilding contracts for the construction of the new LNG carriers.

GTT said in a statement on Thursday in has received the order in April.

The LNG containment giant said the vessels would feature its containment system, but it did not provide any additional information.

Hudong-Zhonghua previously said the vessels, part of its fifth-generation Changxeng series, would be 299 meters long and 46.4 meters wide.

Also, the LNG carriers would have a reliquefaction system as well, it said.

Hudong-Zhonghua also did not reveal the containment system or the propulsion. The Changxeng series vessel orders for CNOOC charter include WinGD’s X-DF dual-fuel engines and GTT’s NO96 Super+ containment system.

The yard plans to deliver the LNG carriers in third quarter of 2024 and the second quarter of 2025.
