Jiangnan to build more LNG-powered car carriers for SAIC Anji

China’s Jiangnan Shipyard has won a new contract from compatriot SAIC Anji Logistics to build LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers, according to shipbuilding sources.

Under the deal, CSSC’s Jiangnan would construct three LNG dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of 7,800 units for SAIC Anji Logistics, a unit of China’s biggest automaker SAIC Motor, three shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime on Tuesday.

The award follows a tender SAIC Anji Logistics issued for the three vessels to domestic shipyards in March this year.

Designed by SDARI, all of the vessels would feature WinGD dual-fuel engines and type C LNG tanks.

Jiangnan would deliver the new vessels in 2024 and 2025, while SAIC Anji is expected to pay about $90 million per ship.

This contract follows an order for two LNG dual-fuel PCTCs with a capacity of 7,600 units. Jiangnan and SAIC Anji signed this deal in January this year.

VesselsValue data suggests that these vessels each cost about $85 million.

One shipbuilding source said that SAIC Anji is also looking to order more vessels beyond these five LNG-powered PCTCs.
