Jiangnan to build two LNG-powered car carriers for SAIC Anji

China’s Jiangnan Shipyard has reportedly won a contract from compatriot SAIC Anji Logistics to build two LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers.

SAIC Anji Logistics, a unit of China’s biggest automaker SAIC Motor, placed the order for two firm LNG dual-fuel 7,600 CEU PCTCs, according to Clarksons Platou.

CSSC’s Jiangnan would deliver the two vessels in March and September 2024, Clarksons said without revealing any additional info.

Prior to this award, SAIC Anji Logistics launched a tender in August for the two LNG-powered ships.

Jiangnan is already building three LNG-fueled PCTCs featuring battery power for Norwegian shipping firm United European Car Carriers.

With an overall length of 169 meters and a width of 28 meters, these ships will have a car carrying capacity of 3,600 units on 10 cargo decks.

In addition to PCTCs, the state-owned yard has already delivered four of the world’s largest LNG-powered vessels to CMA CGM as part of the order for nine 23,000 TEU ships.

Recently, Jiangan also handed over the first out of five 15,000 TEU LNG-powered container vessels to the French firm.
