Wartsila to support NYK LNG carrier

Finland’s Wartsila said it has signed a long-term asset performance agreement with a unit of Japan’s shipping giant NYK for one of the latter’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

Wartsila secured the 15-year deal with NYK LNG Ship Management in March this year, according to a statement on Thursday.

It includes the engines and related equipment for the LNG carrier in order to maximize the ship’s uptime while providing long-term cost predictability, and optimized maintenance costs, Wartsila said.

These include the vessel’s three Wartsila 50DF dual-fuel engines, as well as the gas valve units (GVU) and turbochargers.

Wartsila said that it already supports two of NYK’s sister LNG carriers under similar agreements.

The tech firm revealed in January a 13-year optimized maintenance agreement for one LNG carrier, and 15-year deals for two NYK LNG tankers in March last year.
