Meyer Werft hands over Disney’s first LNG-powered newbuild

Germany’s Meyer Werft has delivered the first out of three LNG-powered vessels to Disney Cruise Line, a unit of the US-based Walt Disney Company.

Meyer Werft handed over the giant cruise vessel with about 144,000 gross tons, Disney Wish, during a ceremony in Bremerhaven on Thursday, the shipbuilder said in a statement.

This is the first 339.5 meters long LNG-powered vessel out of three ships.

Meyer Werft should deliver the second and the third LNG-powered vessel to Disney Cruise Line in 2024 and 2025, respectfully.

Disney Cruise Line expects the new ship to start working from Port Canaveral, Florida on July 14 following delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meyer Werft launched this vessel earlier this year and laid the keel in April last year.

The new ship for Disney Cruise Line has 1,250 cabins and is slightly larger than the company’s current ships, Dream and Fantasy, both built by Meyer Werft.
