China’s Jiangnan starts work on Anthony Veder’s small-scale LNG carrier

China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Jiangnan Shipyard has started building a 30,000-cbm LNG carrier for Dutch gas shipping firm Anthony Veder.

To mark the official construction start, the yard held a steel cutting ceremony for the small-scale carrier on Thursday.

The DNVGL-classed ship will be 176.8 meters long and 28.8 meters wide. VesselsValue data suggests that Anthony Veder ordered the ship for about $65 million.

Furthermore, the ship will feature a dual-fuel propulsion and two TGE’s bilobe cargo tanks with a 15,000-cbm capacity, each.

This will be the second newbuild for Anthony Veder as the firm has earlier this year taken the delivery of a similar LNG carrier, the Coral Encanto, from China’s Zhejiang Xinle Shipbuilding in Ningbo.

Jiangan said this new project marks the first cooperation between the Chinese yard and Anthony Veder.

Additionally, this is the second such vessel for Jiangnan following the delivery of a 30,000-cbm LNG carrier to CNOOC in 2015.

The Chinese yard expects to deliver the new vessel in early 2022.
