Cheniere’s third Sabine Pass jetty 96.4 percent complete

US engineer Bechtel has completed 96.4 percent of the third jetty project at Cheniere’s six-train 30 mtpa Sabine Pass LNG facility in Louisiana.

According to the latest construction update filed with FERC, the project was 96.4 percent complete as of July this year, against the plan of 97.2 percent.

Cheniere said in the update that engineering was 100 percent complete, procurement 100 percent, subcontracts 99.4 percent, while construction was 89.9 percent complete.

During the month of July, construction completed excavations for the LNG swale, vendor steel installations on the PND (tug berth) wall, and cleaning of piping lines, according to Cheniere.

Nine systems were turned over to commissioning and startup (CSU) in July, and the last hydrocarbon systems would be turned over at the beginning of August, the LNG producer said.

Also, the remaining systems would be turned over throughout the month, with the respective commissioning demonstration tests closely following, it said.

Cheniere is adding the third marine berth and supporting facilities to boost operating flexibility at the Sabine Pass LNG facility.

The jetty will have the capability to load LNG carriers with a capacity of 125,000-180,000 cubic meters.

It will increase the maximum number of calls by LNG carriers with a capacity of up to 180,000 cbm at the plant by 180 per year.

Cheniere said earlier this year that operations of the jetty could start by the end of 2022.

Besides the Sabine Pass plant, Cheniere recently took a final investment decision on Stage 3 expansion at its Corpus Christi LNG export plant in Texas.

The expansion will add about 10 mtpa to the three-train 15 mtpa Corpus Christi plant.

In addition, Cheniere’s CEO Jack Fusco recently said the company was working to add over 30 million tonnes of capacity at its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi plants.
