Wallenius SOL’s second LNG-powered newbuild ready to enter service

Sweden’s Wallenius SOL will on Thursday put in use its second LNG-powered vessel, Baltic Enabler, following its arrival in Europe from China’s CIMC Raffles yard in Yantai.

The Chinese yard handed over this vessel in June. This followed the delivery of its sister vessel Botnia Enabler in May.

Wallenius SOl claims these are the world’s largest ice-rated multi-fuel ConRo vessels.

Following its delivery in June, Baltic Enabler set sail towards Europe and it arrived in Belgium’s port of Zeebrugge last week.

“On August 25, Baltic Enabler will begin plying her regular route, which she will share with her sister ship, Botnia Enabler,” Walenius SOL said in a statement.

“Having both ships in regular traffic is an important milestone for us and for our customers. This means we now have a capacity of 962 TEU on the Zeebrugge-Antwerp-Kokkola-Oulu-Kemi-Skelleftea-Travemunde route every week,” Ragnar Johansson, managing director of Wallenius SOL said.

The ships have a length of 242 meters, a beam of 35.2 meters, a capacity of 5,800 lane meters, and the highest Finnish-Swedish ice class to cope with the harsh winter conditions in the Gulf of Bothnia.

In addition to their classic RoRo function, the Knud E. Hansen-designed ships have a large capacity for containers.

The ships feature two 685-cbm type C LNG tanks, provided by MAN Cryo, as well as two WinGD dual-fuel main engines.
