Japan’s NYK pens new LNG carrier charter deal

Japan’s shipping giant NYK said it has signed a deal to charter one newbuild LNG carrier to compatriot Osaka Gas International Transport, a unit of Daigas.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, NYK signed a multi-year time charter contract with Osaka Gas International Transport for the 174,000-cbm Grace Freesia.

NYK did not reveal any further information regarding the deal.

According to Grace Freesia’s AIS data provided by VesselsValue, NYK took delivery of this vessel from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in June this year.

The 297.1 meters long LNG carrier comes equipped with a WinGD X-DF engine that can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank.

It also features a reliquefaction system that can use surplus boil-off gas efficiently, NYK said.

This is the second charter deal NYK revealed in the last two weeks.

NYK announced a charter deal for one newbuild LNG carrier with Kyushu Electric Power’s new trading unit, Q United Energy Supply & Trading.
