BP contracts Siem Offshore’s LNG-powered PSV for work in Canada

Norway-based Siem Offshore has secured a contract from BP’s unit in Canada for its LNG-fueled platform supply vessel, Siem Symphony.

According to Siem Offshore, the contract will last four to six months.

The vessel will start serving BP Canada in the second quarter of 2023.

Siem Offshore did not reveal any additional information regarding the contract.

Siem Symphony was last in Canada in 2019. Since then, the large platform supply vessel powered by LNG/MGO, has been upgraded with a 560kWh battery.

With this move, it became the first hybrid vessel in Siem Offshore’s fleet.

Over the past year, this has helped the vessel to reduced CO2 emissions by more than 1000t and saved more than 350 cbm of fuel, Siem Offshore claims.

To date, Siem Offshore has installed batteries on four of its 28 vessels, including its LNG PSV Siem Thiima and LNG PSV Siem Pride.
