India’s JK Lakshmi Cement deploys LNG-powered trucks

India’s JK Lakshmi Cement has teamed up with GreenLine to add ten LNG-powered trucks built by Blue Energy Motors to its fleet.

With this, K Lakshmi Cement became India’s first cement company to deploy LNG-powered trucks for transportation, the firm said in a statement.

In a launching ceremony, held at the company’s Sirohi plant in Rajasthan, a fleet of 10 LNG-powered trucks left for the company’s grinding unit at Surat, it said.

K Lakshmi Cement said it aims to “substantially” increase the number of these LNG-powered vehicles in the coming year.

The move is part of the company’s plans to slash emissions and it entered into a strategic partnership with GreenLine for providing these LNG-powered trucks for transportation.

Pune-based Blue Energy Motors manufactured these trucks.

Earlier this year, FPT Industrial, a unit of Italian truck manufacturer Iveco, signed a deal with Blue Energy Motors to supply engines for LNG-powered trucks.

After that, the two firms unveiled the first LNG truck powered by FPT’s 6.7-liter engine in September while Iveco also agreed to buy a stake in the Indian firm.
