Gasum launches LBG plant in Finland

LNG supplier Gasum has opened the first liquefied biogas plant in Finland as it looks to boost the production of the fuel.

The plant in Turku is the first in Finland to produce LBG for transport, industrial and maritime needs, Gasum says.

Furthermore, the facility will produce around 60 GWh of LBG a year.

This equals to the annual fuel consumption of 125 heavy-duty vehicles or 5,000 cars, according to the Finland-based firm.

Additionally, the plant will also produce around 4,000 tonnes of ammonia water for use as a recycled nutrient.

Biogas plants in Finland and Sweden

Gasum plans to make 4 TWh of biogas available in the Nordics by 2024 through its own production and partners.

The firm now has 15 biogas plants in Finland and Sweden, making the company one of the largest producers in the Nordics.

Gasum produces around 800,000 tonnes of biomass a year in its biogas plant network and around 740,000 tonnes of fertilizer products a year in Finland and Sweden.

Biogas is a renewable energy source that can be produced from many types of biodegradable waste.
