Germany’s TT-Line says second LNG-powered ferry ready to enter service

German ferry operator TT-Line said it would place its second LNG-powered RoPax ferry, Peter Pan, into service in the Baltic Sea on Tuesday.

TT-Line took delivery of this 230 meters long vessel from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing in November.

After that, the vessel departed on its maiden voyage to Europe and completed its first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation on December 19 at the Pengerang Anchorage, Malaysia.

On the evening of January 23, 2023, after 53 days and over 12,000 nautical miles, Peter Pan reached the port of Travemünde and successfully completed its journey from China to Germany, according to TT-Line.

“Peter Pan expands the capacity of the TT-Line fleet starting with the first departure from Travemünde to Trelleborg on January 31, 2023 at 02:30am,” TT-Line said in a social media post on Monday.

Peter Pan is the ninth vessel in TT-Line’s fleet and the second LNG-powered newbuild after its sister vessel, Nils Holgersson.

The Chinese yard delivered Nils Holgersson in March last year and the vessel started its Baltic Sea operations from Travemünde in April.

Both of the vessels feature MAN dual-fuel engines and two 500-cbm type C LNG tanks, according to TT-Line.

The ships, based on TT-Line’s ‘Green Ship’ design, have the capacity for 800 passengers and over 200 vehicles.
