US approves seven more LNG export extensions

The US Department of Energy extended the terms of seven long-term LNG export authorizations through 2050.

This move follows ten LNG export term extensions issued in October pursuant to an export term policy statement DOE finalized in July.

The new term extensions include the Golden Pass facility in Texas and the Texas LNG project proposed for Brownsville.

Additionally, DOE granted an extension to the proposed Magnolia and Driftwood plants in Louisiana, and the Delfin LNG project proposed for offshore Louisiana.

The new approvals also include an extended export term for Sempra Energy’s Costa Azul project in Mexico.

Costa Azul, which recently reached a final investment decision for its mid-scale project, has DOE authorization to import and liquefy US-sourced natural gas for export from Mexico.

These issuances extend each project’s export authorization to both free trade and non-free trade agreement countries through December 31, 2050.

Including the new term extension applications, thirteen US LNG export projects, as well as the Costa Azul project in Mexico, now hold long-term authorizations with export terms through 2050, DOE said.
