Work progresses on LNG-powered MSC World America in France

France’s Chantiers de l’Atlantique continues to progress work on MSC Cruises’ LNG-powered vessel, MSC World America.

The shipbuilder held a coin ceremony for the cruise vessel on May 31 at its Saint Nazaire yard, according to a statement by MSC Cruises, the cruise unit of MSC.

This is the brand’s second ship in its world class series and the first ship specifically designed for the US cruise market powered by LNG.

When she begins sailing from MSC Cruises’ new terminal at PortMiami in April 2025, MSC World America will be the brand’s largest ship in North America, it said.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique held a steel-cutting ceremony for MSC World America in October last year, along with the delivery of the first LNG-powered cruise vessel it built for Switzerland-based cruise operator MSC Cruises, MSC World Europa.

Now the shipbuilder held the keel-laying for MSC World America along the delivery of MSC Euribia, the second MSC Cruises’ LNG-powered vessel, MSC Euribia.

MSC Euribia is now on its way to Copenhagen, Denmark where MSC Cruises will hold the official naming ceremony.

During its inaugural season, the vessel will offer 7-night itineraries sailing to the Norwegian Fjords with weekly departures from Kiel, Germany, and Copenhagen.
