LNG freight rates rise above $50,000 per day

Spot charter rates for the global LNG carrier fleet in both basins are now above $50,000 per day, according to Spark Commodities.

Spark said that LNG spot freight rates for 160,000-cbm TFDE carriers rose on Monday above $50,000 in both the Atlantic and the Pacific basins for the first time since March.

The Atlantic Spark30S and the Pacific Spark25S rates rose to $50,750 per day on Monday.

“Spot rates in each basin at parity this month for the first time since December 2022,” Spark said.

LNG freight rates rise above $50,000 per day

LNG spot freight rates continued to push higher last week, with the rate on the Atlantic Spark30S route rising $9,750/day week-on-week to $45,000/day.

Meanwhile, spot freight in the Pacific basin also tightened, with the rate on the Spark25S route rising $9,250/day week-on-week to $47,500/day.

Both the Atlantic and Pacific rates for 160,000-cbm TFDE carriers fell below $100,000 per day in January, following record highs in October and November last year.
