Germany’s Alternoil seals bio-LNG deal with Danish firm

German LNG fueling station operator Alternoil has signed a deal to buy bio-LNG from Danish biogas producer GronGas.

Alternoil, a part of avanca, said in a statement the long-term and exclusive supply deal for
waste-derived bio-LNG will further increase the availability of its renewable fuel REEFUEL.

However, the firm did not provide any additional information regarding the deal.

GronGas, a 50/50 partnership between Jens Peter Lunden and energy firm E.ON Denmark, operates two biogas plants in Denmark and will start production of bio-LNG in 2023, the statement said.

The firm also aims to produce e-methane from green hydrogen and biogenic CO2 for the transport sector.

Alternoil supplies LNG and bio-LNG via a large network consisting of more than 50 LNG stations in Germany.

Last year, the firm also signed a deal worth about $260 million to buy bio-LNG from Sweden-based Biokraft, previously known as Scandinavian Biogas.

Alternoil is also a partner in REEFUELERY’s bio-LNG plant in Burghaun which is expected to start operations next year.

“The transformation of the transport sector and the increasing demand for bio-LNG and eLNG in heavy-duty transport not only requires the continuous increase of our REEFUEL volumes and the expansion of our refueling infrastructure, but also reliable and long-term partnerships along the entire value chain,” Alexander Renz, managing director of Alternoil, said in the statement.
