Ecospray bags contract from Ruhe to build more bio-LNG plants

Italian engineering firm Ecospray has won a new contract from Germany’s Ruhe Group to build more bio-LNG production plants.

The new projects strengthen the existing partnership between Ecospray and Ruhe which under agreements from 2021 and 2022 have already been working together at several plants for biomethane and CO2 liquefaction.

In August last year, Agrarvereinigung eG Darchau, Ruhe Biogas, and Ecospray launched what they say is the first compact bio-LNG plant in Germany.

After that, Ecospay secured a new contract from Ruhe to build more bio-LNG production plants in the country.

Ecospray, owned by Carnival Corporation’s Costa Cruises, said in a statement on Wednesday it has signed new deals with Ruhe Group – Green Line Liquid Anlagenbau for the development of eight new plants in Europe for biomethane production and micro-liquefaction (bio-LNG) from manure and agriculture waste.

According to Ecospray, the new plants should be delivered as from the last quarter of 2023.

The expected overall output is in excess of 60 tons of bio-LNG per day.

As a fuel, liquefied biomethane will avoid 168,000 tons of CO₂eq emissions a year, Ecospray claims.

“We have more than 20 plants under construction which will expectedly be commissioned between 2023 and 2024,” Ecospray’s general manager Alberto Di Cecio said in the statement.

He said that these orders are worth about 90 million euros ($99.7 million) overall.

“Such plants will be delivered in Italy, in Europe, and in the United States; this is evidence of how rapidly such market is growing all over the world,” Di Cecio said.
