Jovo’s LNG carrier completes sea trials

Jovo’s first 79,800-cbm LNG carrier completed its sea trials and the vessel returned to China’s Jiangnan Shipyard.

According to a statement by the state-owned yard located in Shanghai, the LNG carrier Mulan Spirit left the dock on August 31 and returned to the shipyard on September 5.

CSSC’s Jiangnan said it will now prepare China’s first medium-sized LNG carrier equipped with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system for upcoming gas trials and delivery.

Jiangnan started building this 229.99 meters long dual-fuel LNG carrier with a draft of 10.6 meters in December 2021 following the order by Jovo in August.

The shipbuilder launched the vessel, classed by LR, in February this year.

Jovo said in a separate statement that its fleet currently includes four LNG and four LPG carriers.

Besides Mulan Spirit, Jovo also owns the 2008-built 154,982-cbm, Arrow Spirit, previously known as Trinity Arrow.

Jovo purchased this steam turbine LNG carrier, which also features GTT’s Mark III containment system, this year from Shoei Kisen for some $85 million.

According to Jovo’s first-half report, the company entered in 2021 into a sale and leaseback deal for the 2008-built 138,121-cbm, Pioneer Spirit, previously known as LNG Pioneer.

The firm’s fleet includes the 2006-built 74,130-cbm, Energy Spirit, previously known as Global Energy, and Jovo entered into a sale a leaseback deal in 2021 for this vessel as well, the report shows.

VesselsValue data shows that China’s Bank of Communications Financial Leasing owns these two LNG carriers.
