Molgas expands LNG bunkering network with first Rotterdam operation

European small-scale LNG player Molgas has expanded the company’s LNG bunkering network with the completion of its first operation in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Molgas said in an emailed statement that the first delivery in Rotterdam is part of a long-term contract the firm signed with a “prominent Dutch shipowner”.

Moreover, the agreement entails supplying LNG to strategic locations encompassing Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam, marking a “pivotal advancement in the group’s expansion strategy via ship, terminal, and truck,” it said.

Molgas did not reveal the name of the shipowner or provide additional details regarding the contract.

The firm completed the truck-to-ship LNG bunkering operation on Wednesday in cooperation with Norway’s LNG supplier Gasnor and Greece’s small-scale LNG firm Blue Grid.

The Madrid-based group, owned by French private equity firm InfraVia Capital Partners, completed a deal with LNG giant Shell to buy Gasnor back in 2021 and also acquired a controlling stake last year in Blue Grid.

Molgas previously said it is working to further expand its LNG bunkering business as the demand for the fuel continues to grow.

In August, the firm bunkered two newbuild LNG-powered coastal cruise ships owned by Norwegian shipping firm Havila Voyages in Spain.

The terminal-to-ship deliveries to the LNG-powered sister vessels, Havila Pollux and Havila Polaris, took place on August 9 at the Enagas-operated Cartagena regasification facility in Spain.
