GTT bags tank orders for LNG carrier trio

France’s GTT has secured tank design orders from two South Korean shipbuilders for in total three 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

The Paris-based LNG containment giant said in a statement it has received the orders in the third quarter of this year.

According to GTT, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will build the first two LNG carriers on behalf of a European shipowner.

These vessels will feature the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, it said.

Also, the deliveries of these vessels are scheduled for the first and fourth quarters of 2027, GTT said.

Hyundai Heavy won an order for two LNG carriers in August form Greece’s Evalend Shipping, marking the latter’s entry into the LNG sector.

Parent HD KSOE said Hyundai Heavy will deliver these two LNG carriers by November 2027.

LNG giant QatarEnergy has also recently signed a shipbuilding deal worth about $3.9 billion with Hyundai Heavy for the construction of 17 174,000-cbm LNG carriers as part of the second phase of its giant shipbuilding program.

As per the third 174,000-cbm LNG carrier, GTT said that Hanwha Ocean, previously known as DSME, will build this ship on behalf of an Asian shipowner.

This vessel will feature the NO96 GW membrane containment system.

Furthermore, GTT said that Hanwha Ocean will deliver this vessel in the first quarter of 2027.

This order is probably related to an announcement by Hanwha Ocean in July.

The shipbuilder said at the time it will build one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier for about $260 million and deliver the ship by February 2027.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Japan’s MOL has ordered this LNG carrier.
