Petronas takes over Malaysian offshore gas hub from Shell

A unit of Malaysian energy giant Petronas has taken over operatorship of the E11 gas hub, located offshore Bintulu, Sarawak.

Sarawak Shell Berhad operated the hub that produces fuel under the Malaysia LNG production sharing contract for the past 38 years.

Petronas VP of Malaysia Assets Bacho Pilong said in a statement the duo had implemented all the necessary activities since July 2019 to ensure a smooth handover of the hub.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Petronas Carigali as the operator of the E11 hub which is pivotal in ensuring reliable, stable and cleaner energy supply to the market, while continuing to develop Sarawak as a regional gas hub”, he added.

Gas from the offshore hub goes to the Petronas-operated giant LNG complex in Bintulu.

Additionally, the facility consists of four plants, namely MLNG, MLNG Dua, MLNG Tiga and Train 9 with a total output of more than 29 mtpa.
