Germany’s Ruhe boosts bio-LNG production

Germany’s Ruhe Group is boosting its bio-LNG production with the launch of a new plant in Parmen.

The company announced in a statement last week it has launched the bio-LNG facility in Parmen in the Uckermark region and the facility will be operational this month.

Ruhe says this is the first bio-LNG plant in Brandenburg in Parmen.

According to Ruhe, the plant will have a capacity of 7.5 tons of bio-LNG per day and the fuel from local production will soon supply the region around the site.

This is the company’s second bio-LNG plant.

In August last year, Agrarvereinigung eG Darchau, Ruhe Biogas, and Italy’s Ecospray launched what they say is the first compact bio-LNG plant in Germany.

In July this year, Ecospray also won a new contract from Ruhe for more bio-LNG plants.

Ruhe said that several of its companies are involved in the bio-LNG project in Parmen.

In addition to the group’s three biogas plants, this also includes Ruhe Biogas, which supports the operator of the new bio-LNG plant with a feasibility study as well as marketing and sustainability certification, it said.

Green Line Liquid Anlagenbau is the supplier for the planning, preparation of approval documents, and delivery of the entire system.

The system consists of pretreatment and processing facilities, biomethane liquefaction, one 100 cbm cryogenic bio-LNG tank, an LNG loading system for transport vehicles, and a bio-LNG filling unit for vehicles, it said.

In 2024, Ruhe plans to implement a further eight plants with a total capacity of more than 60 tons of bio-LNG per day at customer locations and the group’s own locations.

Due to its compact design, this system can become a model for many agricultural businesses in Germany and Europe, Ruhe said.
