Liqvis launches new German LNG station

Uniper’s unit Liqvis has launched another liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling station in Germany to cater to the increasing demand for the fuel in road transport.

The new LNG filling station is located in Lederhose, Thüringen, on the A9 motorway, according to a Liqvis statement.

This station in Lederhose complements the firm’s growing LNG network in Germany.

This is the company’s 14th LNG station in Germany and follows the opening of the Fulda station in May.

In January 2022, Liqvis and Dutch cryogenic tech firm Cryonorm signed a deal to build up to 16 new LNG filling stations.

Earlier this year, Liqvis also signed a deal with compatriot revis bioenergy to buy bio-LNG from the latter from mid-2023.

Liqvis said at the time it plans to offer bio-LNG as an alternative fuel for heavy duty transport at its LNG filling stations in Germany from the summer of 2023 and to gradually convert its entire supply portfolio to 100 percent bio-LNG.

The market for LNG as a truck fuel is growing in Germany and is the largest in Europe, as owners look to slash emissions but also a road tax exemption for such vehicles.

Data by Gmobility, previously known as NGVA Europe, shows Germany has 184 LNG filing stations, while Italy has 145 such stations. Europe in total hosts 709 LNG stations for trucks.

European network of LNG fueling stations for vehicles recently reached 700 stations.
