Energy giants QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, along with their contractors, continue to advance construction on their massive Golden Pass LNG export facility in Texas.
State-owned QatarEnergy owns a 70 percent stake in the three-train Golden Pass project with a capacity of more than 18 mtpa and will offtake 70 percent of the capacity, while US energy firm ExxonMobil has a 30 percent share.
Last month, ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods said he expects the QatarEnergy-led Golden Pass LNG export project to produce first LNG volumes by the end of this year, “potentially slipping into early next year.”
Golden Pass LNG Terminal and Golden Pass Pipeline said in the newest construction report filed with the US FERC that Golden Pass is continuing to carry out Phase I and Phase II activities, such as such as storm water management levee construction, stockpiling of material, piling, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and electrical commissioning.
Golden Pass and its contractors Japan’s Chiyoda and and US-based CB&I progressed installation of piping in ISBL areas, and continued piping and vessels insulation activities.
In addition, Golden Pass progressed brownfield tie-ins and LNG tank tops modifications scope, while concrete foundation pours continue across all areas.

Commissioning of ground flare system also started, the firm noted.
As per the pipeline expansion project, Golden Pass continued civil activities (final grade) at the MP33 and MP69 compressor stations.
It continued construction activities on the Sabine Spur, NGPL Interconnect improvements, and associated facilities.
New pipeline
Besides construction activities, Golden Pass proposes to construct and operate approximately 1.1 miles of 42-inch-diameter natural gas supply lateral pipeline, a receipt interconnect station, a meter station, and associated appurtenant facilities,
The project is located entirely within the Golden Pass property boundary, and will interconnect the terminal’s feed gas system with a new intrastate pipeline being developed by Trident Intrastate Pipeline.
In addition, Golden Pass plans to construct a receipt point tie-in and meter station that would connect to a future, planned interstate header being developed by Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipeline.
FERC recently issued a notice on its intention to prepare an environmental assessment (EA) for the supply lateral project and the planned schedule for the completion of the environmental review.
The regulator aims to issue the EA on September 12. This will be followed by a 90-day federal authorization decision deadline.
