Stabilis pens new US LNG bunkering deal

Houston-based small-scale player Stabilis Solutions continues to expand its LNG bunkering business and has signed a new deal with a port in Texas.

The firm signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Port Arthur (POPA) to facilitate the use of LNG as a marine fuel at the port in Texas.

This would be the fifth LNG marine bunkering location that Stabilis supports on the Gulf Coast, it said in a statement on Thursday.

Previously, the firm signed deals with the Cameron Parish Port, Harbor & Terminal District, Port Isabel Logistical Offshore Terminal, the Port of Galveston, and the Port of Corpus Christi.

Under the new memorandum, Stabilis and POPA will work together to provide turnkey LNG fueling solutions to marine vessels calling on the port.

This includes identifying suitable dock space for shore-to-ship fueling operations, obtaining the necessary permits and approvals, identifying and educating potential customers, and executing LNG fueling events, Stabilis said.

Moreover, Stabilis said it would deploy its existing fleet of mobile cryogenic assets, including LNG transportation and distribution equipment, and provide LNG from its liquefaction plant in George West, Texas.

The company expects LNG bunkering services to be available at the port in early 2022.
