GTT gets DSME tank gig for LNG carrier duo

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has contracted Paris-based GTT to design tanks for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.

GTT said in a statement DSME would build the two LNG carriers for Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas.

Each tank would feature GTT’s NO96 GW membrane containment system, the LNG containment giant said.

GTT added that DSME would deliver the vessels during second half of 2024.

The firm did not reveal any additional information.

Maran Gas and DSME announced this shipbuilding contract last month.

Maria Angelicoussis, who is also the head of parent Angelicoussis Shipping Group, signed the new contract with DSME’s CEO Lee Sung-geun on November 10.

DSME said it would build the 174,000-cbm vessels for about $411 million, while the contract includes an option for two additional LNG carriers.

Angelicoussis has booked 112 ships at DSME since 1994. Recently, DSME delivered the 174,000-cbm LNG carrier Isabella to Maran Gas.
