Hyundai Heavy awards LNG tank job to GTT

French LNG containment giant GTT has won a new contract from South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Under the new order, GTT will design the tanks for two 174,000-cbm LNG tankers.

In addition, the newbuilds would feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, according to the French firm.

GTT said Hyundai Heavy would deliver the vessels to a European owner in the fourth quarter of 2023. The firm did not reveal any additional information.

The LNG carriers in question are probably related to the recent order Hyundai Heavy disclosed in a stock exchange announcement.

The shipbuilder said it would build two LNG carriers for an undisclosed owner for about $385 million.

Hyundai Heavy also did not reveal any additional information but several brokers reported after the announcement that Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas had ordered the two LNG carriers.

The Greek company also confirmed the order which would boost its fleet to nine vessels.
