Indonesia’s Jawa Satu FSRU gets first LNG cargo

Indonesia’s Jawa 1 LNG-to-power project has received its first commissioning cargo.

The 145,700-cbm Tangguh Towuti docked at the 170,000-cbm Jawa Satu FSRU located off Karawang Regency in Indonesia’s West Java province on Monday, according to Jawa Satu Power, the project’s power plant operator.

In addition, Tangguh Towuti previously loaded the cargo at BP’s Tangguh facility in Indonesia’s Papua Barat Province. LNG produced at the Tangguh plant will regularly supply the FSRU in the future.

The shipment marks the first out of four commissioning cargoes planned for the LNG-to-power project.

To remind, the newbuild FSRU serving the project arrived at Pertamina’s Bontang facility on February 12 for cool-down operations after leaving South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries in early January.

The vessel works for Jawa Satu Regas, a joint venture consisting of state-owned Pertamina, Japan’s Marubeni, Sojitz, and MOL.

Moreover, MOL will operate and maintain the newbuild with a 300 MMscfd regas capacity.

Jawa Satu FSRU will supply regasified LNG to the 1.76GW gas-fired power plant in Indonesia’s West Java province. The plant and FSRU are connected with 21 km of gas pipelines located both offshore and onshore.

Jawa Satu Power, a venture of Pertamina, Marubeni, and Sojitz leads the onshore power plant while the electricity produced at the facility will go to Indonesian power producer PLN as part of a 25-year contract.

The partners claim this development is Asia’s first LNG-to-power project using an FSRU.
