Karpowership, Pertamina’s shipping unit ink LNG pact

Turkey’s Karpowership, part of Karadeniz, is joining forces with Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a shipping unit of Indonesia’s state-owned energy firm Pertamina, to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure.

In that regard, the two firms signed a general partnership agreement in Dubai on Friday, according to a statement by PIS.

Under the deal, PIS and Karpowership will explore and implement various initiatives aimed at advancing the energy landscape in Indonesia and beyond.

The key focus areas include power generation opportunities with a special focus on Powership technology; unlocking gas assets through liquefaction with a potential of an FLNG development and deployment; collaborating on LNG infrastructural projects including FSRUs, and small-scale LNG distribution.

In addition, the two firms will also work together on studies for the development of alternative fuel sources, including hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, biofuels, and others.

Karpowership aims to expand its activities into the natural gas, biomethane, hydrogen, and LNG space by leveraging its experience with floating energy infrastructure.

The company launched its first LNG-to-power project in Indonesia in 2020.

It recently also signed a memorandum of understanding with Argentina-based Galileo Technologies to develop solutions in the FLNG sector and other areas.
