Wuhu launches Donsotank’s 1st LNG-powered tanker

China’s Wuhu yard on Friday launched the first out of two Donsotank’s LNG-powered product and chemical tankers.

The yard held the launching ceremony for the 22,000 dwt Prospero in quite foggy weather, the vessel designer FKAB said in a statement.

To remind, Swedish privately-owned shipping firm Donsotank ordered the LNG-powered tankers in December 2018. Wuhu held a keel-laying ceremony for the first vessel in August last year.

Both of the Ice class 1A ships will have Wartsila LNG propulsion but Wuhu will also equip them with a battery pack.

In addition, the 167.3 meters long vessels feature an F-Bow design hull optimized to withstand harsh weather conditions.

The Chinese yard claims the vessels to be the world’s first hybrid chemical tankers. It will deliver them during this year.
