Fratelli Cosulich chooses Schottel’s propulsion for its LNG bunkering vessel

German propulsion expert Schottel is set to supply its main and auxiliary propulsion system for one LNG bunkering vessel ordered by Italian shipping group Fratelli Cosulich.

Under the contract revealed last week, Schottel would deliver two diesel-driven EcoPellers type SRE 360, with a propeller diameter of 2.3 meters, it said in a statement.

Also, Schottel would install two TransverseThrusters type STT 1 CP to ensure maximum maneuverability in port areas, the company said.

Schottel said the 113 meters long and 20 meters wide vessel would be able to achieve sailing speed of 13 knots.

The company did not reveal the price tag of the contract.

China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore and Engineering shipyard is currently building the 8,000-cbm vessel.

Fratelli Cosulich placed the order for the 5,300-dwt dual-fueled vessel at CIMC SOE in May last year.

The company said the vessel would serve customers in the Mediterranean region after CIMC SOE delivers it in the summer of 2023.

As previously reported, sources told LNG Prime that Fratelli Cosulich had exercised an option for a second LNG bunkering vessel on October 30.

This LNG bunkering ship will have the same specifications as the first vessel.
