Japan’s NYK wraps up deal with Pertamina’s shipping unit

Japan’s NYK said it had finalized its previously announced deal to invest in Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a shipping unit of Indonesia’s state-owned energy firm Pertamina.

In October, NYK and PIS reached a basic agreement regarding investment and cooperation, including LNG transportation.

The two firms concluded the investment agreement and a strategic alliance agreement on December 1, according to a statement by NYK.

NYK said it would contribute to Indonesia’s development by collaborating with PIS in a wide range of businesses, including those associated with crude oil, petroleum products, LNG transportation, FSRUs, and CCS, for which it expects demand to grow in the future.

Last year, NYK appointed the company’s first Indonesian chief engineer of one of its LNG carriers that provides transportation services for the BP-led Tangguh LNG project in Indonesia.

Besides this appointment, NYK also named the first Indonesian captain of one of its LNG carriers.
