PipeChina gets license to use GTT tech

French LNG containment firm GTT has signed a license agreement with a unit of state-owned LNG terminal operator PipeChina.

According to a statement by GTT, the deal with PipeChina Engineering Technology Innovation (PipeChina Innovation) enables the latter to use GTT membrane containment technology for onshore LNG storage.

Sang Guangshi, general manager of PipeChina Innovation, and Adnan Ezzarhouni, general manager of GTT China, formalized the agreement at GTT’s headquarters. Also, senior executives from both firms, including GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière, attended the signing ceremony.

“Through this partnership, the two companies are committed to jointly pursuing commercial projects dedicated to the construction, in the near future, of onshore LNG storage tanks, equipped with renewable energy storage features and incorporating the GST membrane containment technology developed by GTT,” GTT said.

Last year, GTT and PipeChina Innovation signed a cooperation agreement for the evaluation and further promotion of GTT’s GST membrane full containment tank technology for PipeChina’s upcoming LNG projects.

China launched China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network (PipeChina) in December 2019 to acquire pipelines and LNG import terminals from the country’s state-owned energy giants.

The company operates seven LNG receiving terminals, and is also building three new LNG plants.

On the other hand, GTT is expanding its presence in the onshore LNG tank market in China with this deal.

In January 2023, HQCEC completed the construction of the world’s largest onshore LNG storage tanks incorporating GTT’s GST membrane containment technology at the Tianjin Nangang LNG import terminal owned by China’s Beijing Gas.
