Seapeak secures LNG carrier charter deals

Seapeak, previously known as Teekay LNG Partners, has secured a three-year charter extension and a one-year charter contract for two of its LNG carriers.

In June, the charterer of the Myrina LNG carrier exercised the first of four three-year extension options at a fixed rate, which starts in May 2024, according to Seapeak’s quarterly results report.

Seapeak did not reveal the name of the firm, but the 2018-built 173,000-cbm LNG carrier is currently serving a unit of LNG giant Shell.

Besides this vessel, Seapeak entered into a one-year, fixed-rate charter contract in April for the 2003-built 135,423-cbm, Seapeak Catalunya.

Seapeak said this deal includes an extension option of up to one year exercisable by the charterer.

The firm expects this charter to start in October 2023, once the vessel redelivers from its current charter contract.

Seapeak also noted that the 2016-built 173,000-cbm, Seapeak Creole, started a 23-year, fixed-rate charter contract in April this year.

Seapeak did not provide further details.

Vessel sales

Teekay LNG Partners rebranded as Seapeak last year following the completion of its $6.2 billion merger deal with private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners.

The shipping firm has interests in 49 LNG carriers, including 4 newbuilds, and is one of the world’s largest operators of such vessels.

It also operates midsize LPG carriers and multigas carriers and has a 30 percent interest in an LNG regasification terminal in Bahrain.

Seapeak said in the results report that it has sold the 1993-built Seapeak Polar LNG carrier in June for net proceeds of $14.7 million.

Brokers previously reported that the firm has sold the 87,305-cbm LNG carrier for demolition.

Besides this vessel, the shipping firm said it has sold the 1993-built Seapeak Arctic LNG carrier in February for net proceeds of $14.9 million.

This vessels was sold for demolition as well.

In addition to these mid-scale LNG carriers, Seapeak sold the multi-gas carrier Seapeak Vision in April for net proceeds of $24 million, and the multi-gas carrier Seapeak Unikum in March for net proceeds of $24.7 million.
