Bechtel appoints new oil and gas head

US LNG engineering firm Bechtel said it appointed Paul Marsden as president of the company’s oil, gas and chemicals business.

Marsden will succeed Alasdair Cathcart, who is stepping down after 31 years at Bechtel.

He will assume his position on September 8.

Marsden’s experience includes serving in senior customer-facing leadership roles on several landmark projects for the oil and gas unit, the US engineer said.

He previously served for three years as senior project manager for Chevron’s Wheatstone LNG project in Australia.

Also in Australia, he worked on Shell’s Queensland Curtis LNG project as senior project manager.

He joined Becthel in 1995 with a master’s degree from Durham University in the United Kingdom, and he is a fellow at the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Besides Marsden, Bechtel also announced the appointment of Ailie MacAdam as president of its mining and metals business.

MacAdam will succeed Paige Wilson, who is retiring after 25 years with the company.

Both Marsden and MacAdam will report to incoming president and chief operating officer Craig Albert.
