Cheniere appoints new board member

US LNG exporting giant Cheniere said it had appointed Brian E. Edwards to serve as a member of the company’s board, effective October 3.

Edwards is considered an independent director and had been appointed to the audit and compensation committees, according to a statement by Cheniere.

He is a senior VP of US construction equipment maker Caterpillar with responsibility for the Caterpillar remanufacturing division.

“Brian’s deep knowledge of industrial manufacturing, engineering and supply chain, coupled with his decades of leadership within large organizations, will provide a differentiated and meaningful perspective to our board and to our company,” G. Andrea Botta, Cheniere’s chairman of the board, said in the statement.

Cheniere also announced that David B. Kilpatrick has retired from its board, effective October 3.

Kilpatrick has served as a member of the company’s board since 2003 and previously served as the board’s lead director from June 2015 to January 2016.

“David’s contributions to Cheniere over the years have been instrumental in our successful transition from a developer to the second largest LNG operator worldwide,” Botta said.

The operator of the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi terminals recently revealed plans to increase the company’s liquefaction capacity to about 90 mtpa as part of its “20/20 Vision” long-term capital allocation plan.

Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana has six operational trains with a capacity of about 30 mtpa, while the firm took a final investment decision on Stage 3 expansion at its Corpus Christi LNG export plant in Texas.

The expansion will add about 10 mtpa to the three-train 15 mtpa Corpus Christi plant.
