Flex LNG appoints new chairman

Norwegian shipping firm Flex LNG, the owner of 13 liquefied natural gas carriers, has appointed Ola Lorentzon as the new chairman of its board of directors.

Lorentzon replaces David McManus who did not stand for re-election as a director at Flex LNG’s annual general meeting, the LNG carrier owner controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen said.

Felx LNG said that Lorentzon has served as a director of the company since June 2017.

He served as principal executive officer of Golden Ocean Group from 2010 to 2015 and held the role as chief executive officer of Frontline Management from 2000 to 2003.

Lorentzon is also a director and chairman of Golden Ocean and a director and chairman of Frontline, both related parties of Geveran, and Erik Thun.

“I am proud to take over the chairman position after the long-standing stewardship of David McManus, who leaves behind him a company excellent financial shape, attractive contract backlog, and with a strong management team,” Lorentzon said.

He added that the company is “today well positioned for the next phase of LNG export expansion and I am looking forward to be working with the board and the management to develop the company further.”

Flex LNG recently secured a time charter extension from US LNG exporter Cheniere for its 2018-built 173,400-cbm ME-GI LNG carrier, Flex Endeavour.

Prior to this, Flex secured two charter extensions from UK-based energy giant BP for the 2019-built 173,400-cbm, Flex Courageous, and the 2020-built 173,400-cbm LNG carrier, Flex Resolute.
