BayWa and Volkswagen launch German LNG station

BayWa Energy and Volkswagen Group’s logistic unit teamed up to launch the first LNG filling station for trucks in the German city of Wolfsburg.

The station, located nearby Volkswagen’s world headquarters, will also offer bio-LNG in the second phase of development.

BayWa said in a statement it aims to launch more LNG filling stations in the Bavarian cities of Munich, Nuremberg and Nordlingen in mid-2020.

The German company which operates in the agriculture, building materials and energy sectors plans other locations for filling stations as well.

BayWa says that the Wolsffburg LNG station is first of many as it looks to develop its service station business in a “future-oriented” way and expand the company’s portfolio with low-emission fuel alternatives such as LNG.

“For Volkswagen Group’s logistics, the extensive availability of LNG stations is an essential prerequisite to further reduce CO2 emissions in road freight transport in the future,” the statement said.
