According to a statement by Enagas, the company, its unit Scale Green Energy, and Axpo presented the vessel, which will operate along the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, in Huelva on Thursday.
With a capacity of 12,500 cbm, Alisios LNG will be supplied at the Enagas-operated Huelva LNG terminal and will enable the supply of LNG and bio-LNG as sustainable fuels for the decarbonization of maritime transport, Enagas said.
Alisios LNG’s AIS data, provided by VesselsValue, shows that the LNG bunkering ship left Nantong, China, from CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering’s yard in early January.
The vessel arrived in Spain at the end of February.
CIMC SOE announced this contract with a unit of Enagas, in December 2023, and officially started building the vessel in October 2024.
Through its subsidiary Scale Green Energy, Enagas operates four vessels: Alisios LNG, Levante LNG, Mistral LNG, and Haugesund Knutsen.
Spain’s available fleet is supported by Spain’s seven regasification plants, which have been adapted to supply LNG for bunkering.
In addition, LNG terminals in Barcelona, Cartagena, Huelva, and El Musel have already launched bio-LNG supply services for ships and tankers.
Axpo boosting LNG bunkering business
Axpo will use this vessel to deliver LNG to LNG-powered ships under a charter deal, Enagas said.
In March last year, Axpo completed its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation with its chartered 7,500-cbm LNG bunkering and supply vessel, Avenir Aspiration.
Axpo bunkered MSC’s LNG dual-fuel containership in the Spanish port of Malaga.
In August last year, Axpo joined forces with Enagas to complete what it says is Spain’s first ship-to-ship bio-LNG bunkering operation at the port of Algeciras in the large container shipping industry.
Avenir Aspiration delivered over 4,000 cbm of ISCC-certified bio-LNG to the LNG dual fuel container vessel CMA CGM Fort Bourbon.
Axpo also recently said that the new LNG bunkering vessel Green Pearl is ready to start operations at the Italian port of Genoa.
