Gasum, Scania launch new LNG station in Sweden

Finland’s Gasum and Sweden’s Scania have launched a new LNG and CNG filling station in Sodertalje, Sweden.

In October last year, the two firms revealed plans to build this station and open in the first half of this year.

The new station located near the Sodertäaje Syd junction, and adjacent to Scania’s production plant, was opened on May 27, Gasum said in a statement.

It replaced older stations in Jarna and Alvsjo, and will provide greater capacity and reduced refueling time.

The station has two compressed gas dispensers and two liquefied gas dispensers, catering to both heavy-duty transport and smaller vehicles.

The statement said that Scania considers biomethane as an “important part” of its broad sustainability offering, providing “cost-efficient emission cuts, as well as several circular benefits and increased energy resilience.”

“In order to stay aligned with Sweden’s ambitious roadmap of achieving a 70 percent reduction in transport emissions by 2030, using 2010 as the baseline, it’s imperative for us to leverage innovative and sustainable solutions like biogas,” the statement said.

Gasum’s strategic goal is to bring 7 TWh of biogas yearly to the Nordic market by 2027.

This goal includes building five large-scale biogas plants in Gotene, Borlange, Kalmar, Sjobo, and Horby in southern Sweden.

In February last year, Gasum started building the first bio-LNG plant in Gotene, and expects production to start at this facility at the end of 2024.

The company plans to start building the bio-LNG plant in Borlange during the spring.
